Scalo Farini – Milan

Scalo Farini – Milan
The competition for the redevelopment of the Farini and San Cristoforo railway yards was an opportunity to rethink a large area with exceptional potential, currently perceived as a disjuncture in the urban fabric of Milan. The proposed solution is based on a series of interrelated urban regeneration strategies, characterised by a high degree of flexibility to adapt to the city’s growth and transformation process.

The heart of the project is the public space of the Parco delle Arti, a public green area that acts as a link between the different areas of the project. In the centre is the European Centre for the Arts, which will be the new headquarters of the Brera Academy and other cultural institutions, with the aim of becoming a reference point for the international art scene.

The master plan is structured around two main axes: to the north, the main vehicular axis runs through the Parco delle Arti and links the Derganino district with the Simonetta area. To the south, the pedestrian axis crosses the European Centre of the Arts and connects the Lancetti with the Cenisio centre via a green bridge.
The building index and the areas reserved for public green spaces have determined the choice of settlement. At the edges, the urban fabric, characterised by contained volumes, is intended to complete the urban front and towards the park. At the heart of the area, a cluster of tall buildings defines new urban landmarks.
